Background


HEMAYAT Innovations Fund aims to catalyze innovative solutions emerging from organizations and individuals to address the current challenges in Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Care System in Afghanistan. Through this fund, HEMAYAT supports the most promising innovative program approaches, technologies, or processes through provision of multi-year grants for the development and evaluation of those innovations and scale up of successfully piloted innovations into BPHS and EPHS and private health sector. In this program, the community groups, civil society organizations and partners are encouraged to generate local solutions.
HEMAAYT defines “Innovation” as following:
Program approaches, technologies, and procedures new to the relevant unit of adoption that lead to substantial improvements in executing against challenges in the field of maternal, newborn and child health care system in Afghanistan. (HEMAYAT).
 

Innovation Themes

The innovation fund thematic areas vary each year. HEMAYAT Project innovation fund unit in cooperation with the ministry of public health of Afghanistan and partner organizations identifies the priority challenges of the health system. The identified priority challenges form the basis for selection of innovation thematic areas for each round of the call for applications.
 

Types of Innovation Grant

1-Seed or Development Grant: Through the financial assistance, the HEMAYAT project will support the development or testing of innovative program approaches, technologies, and processes that are novel and supported by evidence of promise. Development grants will support new or substantially more effective program approaches, technologies, and processes for addressing widely shared challenges. Through this funding, the grantee must effectively undertake the project at the level of scale proposed in the application and/or as agreed upon in the award document.
2-Validation Grant: Through this financial assistance, the HEMAYAT project will support those innovative program approaches, technologies, and processes that evidently demonstrate that the proposed innovation will have a statistically significant effect. The grantee must implement practices and show evidence of effectiveness for the proposed innovation.
3-Scale up Grant: This funding supports scale up of those program approaches, technologies, and processes for which there is strong evidence that the proposed innovation will have a statistically significant effect on the selected challenge. Scale up grant will be provided to a limited number of piloted innovations that are proved most successful and needed. The grantee, with the support of MoPH, will scale up the innovation at the scale required by the MoPH.

HEMAYAT is pleased to announce the second Innovations Fund Call for applications. The deadline for submission of concept papers is Thursday, November 30, 2016 at 11:59 pm. For details about the call for applications please refer to the following link:

How to Apply

1-Those organizations whose innovations match one of the announced themes: should complete the online concept paper submission form and submit online.The online application system can be accessed at the following link:

2-Those organizations who are not able to submit their concept papers using the online system:

  • Download the concept paper submission form here.
  • Complete the form based on instructions provided under each requested categories of information and considering the word limits
  • Send the concept paper to Hemayat.SDSubmissions@jhpiego.org

3-The individual applicants whose innovation match one of the announced themes and those individuals and organizations whose innovations match none of the announced themes, yet their concepts still address challenges in maternal, newborn, adolescent and child health care system of Afghanistan:

  • Download the concept paper submission from here.
  • Complete the form based on instructions provided under each requested categories of information and considering the word limits
